2018 Ruts N Guts

Before UCI cyclocross racing came to the South Central US, there was the Southern Cross Series. With races in Waco, Dallas, and Tulsa, the series drew solid crowds of racers and offered three different courses to challenge your skills and your legs. A few years have passed but Ruts N Guts has remained as a staple event. As the last C1 race on the ProCX calendar, many top riders were making the trip to Broken Arrow to get one final tune-up before the championship races in Louisville.

2018 Resolution Cross Cup

The Resolution Cross Cup is an event that is near and dear to my heart. It’s also near to my home and it’s an event I have been looking forward to since the Spring. The Texas Cross Syndicate has a knack for building incredible courses and this year would be no different. And even though I trained in Winters Park all Summer, it remained to be seen whether my local knowledge could translate to international results.

2018 Major Taylor Cross Cup

The month of November presents a split in the trail of the domestic cyclocross season. With Nationals fast approaching, racers are presented with a multitude of options for racing each weekend. As I surveyed the options available to me, I decided to head back to the Midwest for the Major Taylor Cross Cup on the campus of Marian University. The race provided a great opportunity for points and results in a deep field. But my biggest hope, was that the weather would be drier than the 2017 edition.

2018 Really Rad Festival of Cyclocross

As I sat down to plan my 2018 cyclocross schedule, first on my agenda was to put down the must attend events. DCCX, Resolution Cross Cup, Ruts N Guts, Jingle Cross, and Cincy CX all made the cut. With the big pieces in place, I started to search for opportunities where I could grab some coveted UCI points. While most of the elite peloton made their way north to Canada for the Pan-American Championships, I decided to go east to the Really Rad Festival of Cyclocross. A first year UCI event, I was looking forward to the opportunity to capitalize on some strong racing in the weeks leading into the race, and a shot at stepping on a UCI podium.

2018 Cincy CX

And even though there are many differences between the Belgium and the United States, the US does have a few venues that are as iconic as they come, including the Kings course at the Cincy CX event. We haven’t raced in Mason, Ohio since 2016 but the old golf course has a storied past and is one of the great courses in the history of US cyclocross (in my opinion). Two years later and the ‘cross circuit returned to Kings for another year of racing, this time for two days…

2018 DCCX

When looking at the 2018 calendar, there were a few events that stood out to me. A couple races were included due to their prestige, some for their timing, others because they would be something new for me. But one event that stood out the most was the DCCX race in Washington D.C. So, after the first block of racing was done and dusted… I cleaned myself up and got ready to head to the Nation’s Capital for another year of cyclocross fun.

2018 West Sacramento Cyclocross Grand Prix

There was barely enough time to clean the mud from my ears before it was time to pack up for the next race… The West Sacramento Cyclocross Grand Prix (WSCXGP) provided a new challenge for me. In its second year, this event has already cemented itself as a great event on the West Coast. While I was sad to miss out on the fun in Baltimore, I was equally excited to test my legs against the best of the West.
